Senator John Hoeven, who serves on the Senate Defense Appropriations Committee, issued a statement following the Senate Democrats' decision to block consideration of the Defense Appropriations Bill. The bill is intended to fund the military, including a pay increase for service members and support for key military operations.

Hoeven stated, “Not only are Senate Democrats refusing to pass a clean, short-term continuing resolution to open the government, now they are blocking consideration of the individual appropriations bills. This legislation would fund a military pay raise and support servicemembers’ families, while providing support for vital defense missions, including in North Dakota. It makes no sense to block national security funding. We’ll continue working to overcome Senate Democrats’ obstruction, so we can get government back open and get back to regular order.”

The blocked legislation would have provided funding not only for military pay raises but also support for families of service members and essential defense missions, with specific mention of operations in North Dakota.
