The North Dakota Department of Emergency Services (NDDES) will host two webinars March 7 to outline processes for applying for FEMA’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) and State Homeland Security Grant Program (SHSP). The NSPG webinar will provide information regarding the grant application process to nonprofit organizations in North Dakota, while the SHSP webinar is open to representatives from local and tribal government agencies.

Each applicant can apply for up to $150,000 per site (up to 3 sites per applicant), which can be used for physical security enhancements like barriers, gates, safety gear and surveillance equipment. The grants also can be used for response plans, security or active shooter training, as well as response exercises. North Dakota as an allocation of $1.8 million through the grant program.

The SHSP grant program provides funding to prevent terrorism and prepare for threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk to the security of the United States. The SHSP assists state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) efforts to build, sustain and deliver the capabilities necessary to prevent, prepare for, protect against, and respond to acts of terrorism.
