The U.S. Department of Energy has allocated a grant of $999,999 to the University of North Dakota. This funding is intended to enhance unit operations in the processing and manufacturing of critical materials.

The grant will support UND in demonstrating a prototype for producing low-cost, high-performance silicon monoxide with graphene coating anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. The project aims to reduce water usage, waste, chemical intensity, and energy consumption.
