The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $1 million to Grand Forks International Airport through the Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASDP). The funding aims to support new nonstop service between Grand Forks and Denver International Airport via SkyWest Airlines. The grant will cover revenue guarantee, start-up costs, ground handling offsets, and a marketing plan.

U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer, Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Transportation and Infrastructure, emphasized the airport's importance: “The Grand Forks International Airport is an essential transportation hub for the northern Red River Valley. A region can only grow with quality air service and quality air service can only grow with a quality airport.”

SCASDP helps small communities attract new air services and address airfare issues. In July, North Dakota's delegation supported Grand Forks International Airport’s application in a letter, highlighting community backing and the benefits of increased nonstop service options for businesses and travelers in the Red River Valley.
