Senator John Hoeven has announced that the Federal Railroad Administration, under the Department of Transportation, has allocated $20,714,004 to the Red River Valley & Western Railroad Company. This funding will be used to replace 25 miles of rail between Gwinner and Oakes and construct two new sidings near Casselton.
"North Dakota’s economy is dependent on freight transportation, including rail, to ship bulk agricultural commodities, energy products and manufactured goods," stated Hoeven. "This funding will help rehabilitate aging rail and ensure that our producers in the region can continue to get their products to market safely and efficiently. Improving the railroad network in our state is vitally important to helping to grow North Dakota’s economy."
The grant was secured with support from a letter sent by the North Dakota delegation earlier this year to the Department of Transportation. The funds are part of the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) grant program aimed at maintaining safe and reliable rail transportation. This marks the third consecutive CRISI grant awarded to RRVW.
