Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak attended a significant event at the White House, where President Donald J. Trump signed the Laken Riley Act into law. This marks the first bill signed by President Trump during his presidency. The legislation received bipartisan support in both chambers of Congress and focuses on border security and community safety.

Fedorchak expressed her sentiments about the event, stating, “It was an honor to be part of this somber event as President Trump signed the Laken Riley Act into law. Having your child’s name memorialized in legislation like this is every parent’s worst nightmare. It should not have happened.” She emphasized that safety is not a partisan issue and highlighted the importance of finding common ground to address national challenges.

The act mandates U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain illegal aliens who commit specific crimes such as theft, burglary, larceny, shoplifting offenses, assaulting a law enforcement officer, or any crime leading to death or serious injury. This measure aims to prevent reoffending by those individuals.

Fedorchak further commented on the tragic circumstances surrounding Laken's death: “Laken’s tragic death at the hands of an illegal immigrant—who should never have been allowed to remain in our country—is a stark reminder of what happens when our immigration laws are ignored, and enforcement is undermined." She commended President Trump for signing the legislation promptly.

The signing represents a fulfillment of Trump's campaign promise regarding border security and enhancing public safety. Fedorchak concluded by noting that it was "a proud day for our nation and a testament to the power of bipartisan cooperation."
