Collin Ray Delorme, a 30-year-old from St. Michael, North Dakota, has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. This decision was made by Chief Judge Peter Welte in the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota. Delorme is required to pay restitution jointly with his co-defendant for medical and funeral expenses.
The case stems from an incident on February 18, 2023, when Kenzie Rose Baker called 911 reporting her one-year-old child was not breathing. The child was taken to CHI St. Alexius in Devils Lake and pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed the cause of death as "battered child" due to multiple injuries. Delorme pled guilty to charges related to the abuse of this child and a separate charge involving abuse of a three-year-old.
Kenzie Rose Baker pleaded guilty on August 16, 2024, to charges including Accessory after the Fact and Child Abuse in Indian country. Her sentencing is set for February 24, 2025.
United States Attorney Mac Schneider stated that the sentence serves as accountability for the child's tragic death and aims to deter future incidents of child abuse. Special Agent Alvin M. Winston Sr. emphasized the FBI's commitment to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring justice for those harmed.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Lori H. Conroy and SheraLynn Ternes.
