The North Dakota Game and Fish Department has announced a ban on open burning on public lands it oversees south of Bismarck and Mandan. This measure aims to mitigate the risk of wildfires in a densely wooded recreational area along the Missouri River.

The prohibition includes all forms of open burning, such as campfires, and is effective immediately on the Oahe Wildlife Management Area located on both sides of the Missouri River. Although portable grills are permitted, officials urge users to exercise extreme caution given the area's dense vegetation.
