Fargo man receives federal prison sentence for Loaf 'N Jug robbery

Lucas Tavares, a 34-year-old Fargo resident, has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for Hobbs Act Robbery, as announced by Acting United States Attorney Jennifer Klemetsrud Puhl. Chief Judge Peter Welte of the United States District Court also sentenced Tavares to three years of supervised release following his prison term and imposed a $100 special assessment fee.

Court documents reveal that Tavares committed the robbery on March 5, 2024, at the Loaf ‘N Jug on 1201 N. University Ave, Fargo, ND. During the robbery, Tavares allegedly threatened an employee with a knife. Fargo Police quickly identified and apprehended Tavares on the same day. Subsequently, he was indicted by a federal grand jury for one count of Hobbs Act Robbery, to which he pleaded guilty on January 13, 2025.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Lee from the United States Attorney’s Office in the District of North Dakota.
