The City of New Town has been found in violation of open meetings law according to a recent opinion issued by the Attorney General. The opinion, identified as 2025-L-02 and dated July 9, 2025, addresses an incident where city employees were asked to leave a city council meeting during discussions about employee salaries.

The request for this opinion was made to determine if the City Council's actions breached N.D.C.C. § 44-04-19. The conclusion confirmed that the City Council did indeed violate open meetings law by excluding employees from the meeting.

The full opinion can be accessed under reference number 2025-0-10.
