North Dakota continues to report low numbers of aquatic nuisance species (ANS), but officials stress the importance of ongoing education and compliance with regulations among those using state waters for recreation.

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department has carried out 7,500 watercraft inspections so far in 2025. These inspections have resulted in the draining and removal of water and vegetation from boats. Recently, department staff stopped three watercrafts carrying zebra mussels at Devils Lake.

Ben Holen, the ANS coordinator for the Game and Fish Department, emphasized: "it is critically important water recreationists review ANS regulations and take a few minutes at the boat ramp to do the right thing each and every time."
