The North Dakota Industrial Commission has approved $700,000 in matching grants for renewable energy projects. The commission is made up of Gov. Kelly Armstrong, Attorney General Drew Wrigley and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring.
The Renewable Energy Program was created in 2007 to support research and use of renewable energy resources in North Dakota, including advanced biofuels. Funding for the program comes from oil and gas production tax revenue.
Two projects received funding in this round. The University of North Dakota was awarded $200,000 for a project focused on producing silicon anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. BWR Innovations, LLC received $500,000 for a project aimed at improving renewable energy resources with hydrogen offtake.
“The Renewable Energy Program continues to support innovative projects that advance the development and use of North Dakota’s abundant renewable resources,” said Gov. Kelly Armstrong.
Attorney General Drew Wrigley stated: “These investments help diversify our state’s energy portfolio while supporting economic growth.”
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring added: “By funding these projects, we are helping ensure a more sustainable future for North Dakota.”
