As the new school year approaches, the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is providing guidance to help families establish healthy routines for students returning to classrooms. The department has released tips and resources aimed at supporting children’s well-being during this transition.
"Starting a new school year can be both exciting and challenging for families," said Wayne Salter, Health and Human Services Commissioner. "We want to ensure that every child in North Dakota has access to the support they need for a successful academic year."
HHS officials highlighted the importance of regular sleep schedules, balanced nutrition, physical activity, and mental health support as key factors in student success. The department also pointed families toward available assistance programs designed to ease financial stress as students head back to school.
One such resource is temporary cash assistance, which helps eligible families meet basic needs while working toward self-sufficiency. Work readiness programs are also available through HHS to help parents gain skills necessary for employment and long-term stability.
"We encourage parents and caregivers to reach out if they need support or have questions about available services," Salter added. "Our goal is to make sure all children are prepared and ready for learning."
