The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) has announced changes to traffic control at the 46th Avenue Southeast intersection as part of the ongoing Memorial Highway reconstruction project in Bismarck. The agency said that the previous two-lane closure did not provide enough space for crews to safely complete underground utility and paving work. As a result, a full closure of certain movements at the intersection will be required starting Tuesday, August 26. This closure is expected to last until at least the week of September 22.

During this period, crews will be working on storm sewer, water main, aggregate, and paving operations in the affected area.

Traffic adjustments during construction include head-to-head traffic on Memorial Highway’s north side. Drivers using the south exit ramp can either take the flyover bridge into Bismarck or turn right onto Memorial Highway; however, crossing over to 46th Avenue or making a left turn back toward the I-94 Business Loop will not be possible. Additionally, traffic on 46th Avenue Southeast will lose direct access to Memorial Highway and should use alternate routes such as 21st Street Southeast or the McKenzie Interchange.

Paving work on 21st Street Southeast is scheduled to begin Monday, August 25. The street is expected to reopen by Tuesday, August 26, providing another option for drivers detouring around the closed intersection.

For further updates and detailed information about this project, including downloadable maps of closures and detours, motorists are encouraged to visit www.dot.nd.gov/memorialhwy.
