FAA announces over $31 million in improvement grants to North Dakota airports

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced more than $31 million in funding for airport projects across North Dakota through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP). The funds will be allocated to several airports for a range of infrastructure improvements.

Bismarck Municipal Airport will receive $10,325,656 to reconstruct lighting on Taxiway D and connectors D1, D2, and D3. The project also includes rehabilitating over 4,300 feet of pavement, maintaining the structural integrity of taxiways and connectors, constructing Runway 3/21 safety areas at both ends to enhance safety, and reconstructing 3,483 feet of safety area along with the Runway 21 blast pad.

Fargo’s Hector International Airport is set to receive two grants: $10 million for constructing over 25,000 square yards of apron and reconstructing more than 37,000 square yards of existing terminal apron pavement; and $3,409,869 to expand the terminal by more than 35,000 square feet including four new gates.

Other awards include $1,317,035 to Cooperstown Municipal Airport Authority for a new south taxilane and runway rehabilitation; $1,266,560 to Cavalier Municipal Airport Authority for runway rehabilitation; and $1,121,492 to Langdon Municipal Airport Authority for new taxiway construction.

Additional funding goes to Wahpeton Airport Authority ($818,010) for new taxiway lighting; City of Mohall ($676,540) for stormwater improvements; Lakota Airport Authority ($626,848) for apron reconstruction; Grafton Municipal Airport Authority ($335,781) for a new aircraft hangar; Adams County Airport Authority ($300,000) for resealing pavements; Kenmare Airport Authority ($300,000) for snow removal equipment replacement; Watford City Municipal Airport Authority ($300,000) for a snow removal equipment building; Tioga Municipal Airport Authority ($207,736) for various pavement resealing projects; Walhalla Municipal Airport Authority ($150,126) for a new hangar; and Mercer County Regional Airport Authority ($100,043) for additional pavement maintenance.

According to the FAA: "The FAA AIP provides funding to airports nationwide for planning, capital, and safety enhancement projects."
