The U.S. Department of Education has awarded $956,506 to schools and colleges in North Dakota. The funding is intended to support educational opportunities for Native American students.

Two schools will receive a combined total of $658,478 through the Demonstration Grants for Indian Children Program. Turtle Mountain is set to receive $364,016, while the Devils Lake Public School District will get $294,462. According to the Department of Education, these grants are designed to develop and test programs that aim to improve educational outcomes for Native American children in preschool through secondary school.

Additionally, the University of North Dakota has been allocated $298,028 from the Indian Education Professional Development Grant. This grant supports training for Native students who wish to become teachers and administrators and encourages careers serving Native communities.

"These grants fund the development, testing, and demonstration of the effectiveness of services and programs to improve educational opportunities and achievement of Native American children in preschool, elementary, and secondary schools," stated the Department of Education.

This federal investment reflects ongoing efforts to address education gaps faced by Native American students in North Dakota.
