North Dakota Forest Service issued the following announcement on March 29.
It’s that time of year again! Longer days and warming weather mean wood and bark boring insects become more active in our windbreaks, native woodlands, and community forests. The increased activity of these pests draws the interest of several resident and migratory bark foraging birds, debarking or "blonding" trees in the hunt for food. This removed, scattered bark on the ground is one of our best guides to finding the elusive and invasive emerald ash borer.
