Shane Netterville
Shane Netterville
On Friday, July 8, Shane Netterville, an unarmed Indigenous man living in Jamestown, was murdered by a Fargo PD officer.
Indigenous people are shot and killed by the police at higher rates than any other racial group in the United States. Given the racist origins of policing and continued violent oppression of BIPOC people by police in the United States (and worldwide), we cannot leave racism out of this conversation.
Local news sources like KVRR and Valley News have been giving updates on the police investigation and protests that have followed. Justice cannot be served in the case of an unjust murder, but citizens can continue to demand accountability from the Fargo PD. There needs to be sincere efforts on the side of the officials to act with transparency.
