BISMARCK — U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision in the student loan forgiveness case Biden v. Nebraska.
“The pandemic is over and so is the student loan forgiveness saga. On June 30, 2023 ruling rightly struck down the Biden administration’s illegal forgiveness scheme and prevented American taxpayers from paying for loans they never took out in the first place. Untargeted student loan forgiveness is theft, and I am grateful the Court recognized it as such.”
The Biden Administration’s student loan forgiveness scheme would have eliminated up to $10,000 for individual borrowers with incomes below $125,000 or joint income of $250,000. Borrowers who previously received Pell Grants would have received an additional $10,000 in forgiveness for a total of up to $20,000. Senator Cramer previously cosponsored and voted for a Congressional Review Act resolution to nullify the student loan forgiveness program.
