Senator John Hoeven has expressed his stance against the Biden administration's student loan repayment plan by voting for a Congressional Review Act resolution of disapproval. The resolution aimed to repeal what Hoeven describes as a "costly" overhaul of the student loan system. According to the senator, the current plan would have taxpayers cover the full cost for nearly two-thirds of student loan borrowers. However, the resolution was narrowly blocked with a 49-50 vote.

Hoeven stated, "There are real steps we can take to help workers pay off their student debt, get assistance to those who need it and make college more affordable. However, this costly and overbroad proposal from the Biden administration would provide blanket loan forgiveness regardless of ability to pay while requiring taxpayers and those who already paid back their loans to pick up the tab."

The senator has been actively involved in efforts to enhance higher education affordability and provide workers with more options for repaying their student loans.
