North Dakota's paddlefish season is set to begin on May 1, with plans to run until May 21. The state Game and Fish Department has indicated the possibility of an early closure if the overall harvest necessitates it. Should this occur, a 24-hour notice will be given to the public.

Paddlefish tags are accessible for purchase online at the Game and Fish Department's official website, gf.nd.gov. They can also be acquired during business hours at department offices located in Bismarck, Dickinson, Jamestown, Devils Lake, Lonetree (Harvey), and Williston. Online purchasers have the option of having their tags mailed to them, or they can collect the tags at a Game and Fish office during business hours. Those opting for mailed tags are advised to allow sufficient time for delivery.

All individuals intending to participate in paddlefish snagging must hold both a paddlefish tag and a valid fishing license for those aged 16 and older. It should be noted that lost or destroyed tags will not be replaced.
