The Senate has passed President Trump’s request to rescind $9 billion in federal spending. Senator John Hoeven released a statement following the approval of the legislation, which was submitted by the White House as a package representing less than one-tenth of 1 percent of the overall federal budget.

“The American people have made it clear that we need to get control of our debt and deficit,” said Hoeven. “This package represents a fraction of our federal budget but is an important step in reining in federal spending. The vast majority of the rescissions come from foreign aid, and will help get rid of projects we shouldn’t be funding.”

According to Hoeven, most of the cuts target foreign aid programs, aiming to eliminate expenditures on projects considered unnecessary.
