Senator John Hoeven has announced his support for the Senate’s confirmation of Sam Brown as Under Secretary of Memorial Affairs at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Hoeven said he intends to work with Brown to ensure that veterans receive proper recognition, including advancing plans for a Veterans Memorial Center at the Fargo National Cemetery.

“Sam Brown is clearly the right choice for this important position at the VA. From his own service in the Army to the work he has done on behalf of veterans since, I am confident that he will work hard to ensure all of our veterans are laid to rest with the honor they have earned. I look forward to working with him to accomplish just that, including by advancing a Veterans Memorial Center at the Fargo National Cemetery, which will help make it an incredible cemetery worthy of our veterans and their families,” said Hoeven.

Last month, Hoeven secured an agreement in principle from the VA regarding construction of the Veterans Memorial Center at Fargo National Cemetery. This step followed discussions with VA Secretary Doug Collins and staff about approving a conceptual design put forward by both the Fargo Memorial Honor Guard and a local community working group. The working group was formed by Hoeven to help ensure that facilities at Fargo National Cemetery would meet needs for veterans, their families, and volunteers, aiming to provide a federal cemetery comparable in quality to North Dakota’s state veterans cemetery in Mandan.
