The U.S. Department of Defense has announced an increase in its contract with General Dynamics, raising the total value to $1,106,722,296. The adjustment reflects expanded test activities and missile track fusion work being conducted at Grand Forks and other locations for the Space Development Agency (SDA). The contract is expected to be completed by September 30, 2029.

U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), who chairs the Senate Armed Services Airland Subcommittee, has been involved in efforts to strengthen space-based missions in North Dakota and nationwide. He stated, “With the 319th Reconnaissance Wing flying RQ-4 Global Hawks and providing vital warfighting and ground-based capabilities, the innovative defense ecosystem at Grand Forks Air Force Base is unmatched,” adding, “Raising the contract ceiling will allow General Dynamics to better support our Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture ground management, integration, operation, and sustainment efforts. This crucial investment is proof of the global expertise that resides right here in Grand Forks.”

In April, General Michael Guetlein of the Department of Defense toured North Dakota’s defense sites alongside Senator Cramer and SDA Director Derek Tournear. Their visit included updates at SDA Operations Center North and Cavalier Space Force Station as well as a review of ongoing U.S. Space Force activities across the state.

Last year saw several developments related to defense initiatives in North Dakota. Senator Cramer was present for the activation of SDA Operations Center North at Grand Forks Air Force Base. He also attended a Grand Forks Base Retention Committee meeting, toured the University of North Dakota’s National Security Corridor, and announced new Navy personnel assignments at GFAFB. Additionally, he met with E-Space CEO Greg Wyler and university staff to discuss workforce development and educational collaborations between SDA and UND.
