The U.S. Department of War has awarded a contract valued at $19,817,205 to United Crane and Excavation for repairs to the runway at Grand Forks Air Force Base. The base's runway has experienced deterioration from cracking and weathering, resulting in degraded pavement sections that require repair. The scope of the contract includes materials, planning, travel, labor, and equipment necessary for the construction project. Completion is expected by September 20, 2026.

“A good runway is the beating heart of any Air Force Base, critical for current and future aircraft operations,” said Senator Kevin Cramer. “I heard the concerns of our base leaders and worked hard to get this project authorized in the National Defense Authorization Act, knowing how important it will be to the really important future missions of Grand Forks Air Force Base.”

Senator Cramer has supported funding efforts for this project through his role on the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC). He secured planning and design funding in the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act to initiate maintenance on the runway and met with Air Force officials to discuss both current conditions and future plans for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations based at Grand Forks.
