Construction on U.S. Highway 2/Dakota Parkway in Williston will prompt a traffic switch starting Wednesday, November 12, according to the North Dakota Department of Transportation. The change, which depends on weather conditions, is part of ongoing work by Reede Construction.

The shift will move traffic on 26th Street from the westbound lanes to the eastbound lanes. This adjustment allows construction crews to continue paving and utility improvements safely on the east side of the roadway.

"One lane in each direction will remain open to motorists, with reduced speeds and traffic control devices in place," stated the department. The agency also explained that access for both businesses and residences will be maintained during this phase: "Drivers should use marked entrances, right-in/right-out access points, and follow wayfinding signs to reach nearby businesses and properties."

Some left turns at unsignalized intersections may be restricted, and drivers are advised to follow posted signage for permitted turns and alternate routes. Lane widths through the area will be narrowed while flaggers and other traffic control measures may be present during the transition period.

Officials warn that short delays are likely as motorists adjust to the new pattern, especially during peak hours. With increased construction activity next to live traffic lanes, drivers are urged to stay alert.

Safety reminders include: "Obey all posted signs, message boards, and flaggers. Do not make mid-block or unsanctioned U-turns. Plan extra time or consider alternate routes during the first days of the switch. Slow down—fines are doubled in work zones."

The current traffic configuration is expected to remain until crews finish paving, concrete work, utility upgrades, and restoration activities by month’s end.
