Theatre NDSU has returned from its trip to the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival with awards and recognition following a week in Des Moines, Iowa, to perform its latest production, “Alabaster.”
Che Flory, a junior working towards a Bachelor of Fine Art, won Outstanding Dramaturgy in a 10-Minute Performance for the play “Fallow.” Anjolie Lo, who is working towards a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts, was recognized with the Mehren Makeup Award for “Alabaster.”
Also recognized at the festival was Musical Theatre major Drew Relling. The Grand Forks, North Dakota, native was a finalist in the Musical Theatre Intensive program.
The trip to the KCACTF Region V Conference for Theatre NDSU was its first invitation to perform a play. “Alabaster” was performed in late November through early December, marking its regional debut in the upper Midwest. “Alabaster” is a Pulitzer Prize-nominated production written by Audrey Cefaly.
Theatre NDSU’s next production, “Home,” is scheduled to be staged in the Memorial Union Art Gallery. The production is an original documentary-style look at the FM Foster Care Community devised by Theatre NDSU. The play’s content is built from, and inspired by, interviews conducted with foster parents who live in the Fargo-Moorhead Community. Home is written by NDSU assistant professor Marc Devine. The five performances are set for March 30-April 1, and April 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available online.
