The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) have announced changes to the operating hours at 38 ports of entry along the U.S. northern border. These changes will take effect starting January 6, 2025, and formalize the operating hours that have been in place for over four years at 13 ports of entry across the northern border.
U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer, co-chair of the American-Canadian Economy and Security Caucus, commented on the adjustments: “As a northern border state, North Dakota’s 18 ports of entry play a vital role in facilitating cross-border travel and trade. While these adjustments in ports of entry operating hours are much needed, we need to restore hours of operation at our border to pre-pandemic levels. The COVID-19 pandemic is over, and it’s time the operating hours at our ports of entry reflect it.”
Specific changes include:
- Hannah will continue with its current schedule from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Hansboro will maintain operations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Sarles will remain open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Additionally, CBP will temporarily extend Antler's operating hours for 120 days from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Permanent changes in North Dakota include:
- Fortuna's new hours will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., an extension from its previous closing time.
- Neche will now operate until 6 p.m., extending its closing time by two hours.
- Noonan's schedule will also expand until 7 p.m.
- Walhalla will stay open until 8 p.m., two hours later than before.
Several other locations such as Carbury, Maida, Northgate, St. John, Sherwood, and Westhope will maintain their current operating schedules.
