A motorcycle pursuit in Traill County resulted in a serious injury crash on May 31, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 9:28 PM CDT on Traill County Highway 81, about five miles south of Hillsboro. Road conditions were reported as good, and the weather was clear at the time of the crash.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP), along with the Traill County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsboro Fire Department, and Hillsboro Ambulance Service, responded to the scene. The vehicle involved was a 2025 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by a 19-year-old male from Gardner, ND. He sustained serious injuries despite wearing a helmet.
The narrative provided by authorities indicates that the motorcycle was initially reported as driving recklessly while traveling southbound on Interstate 29 near the Mayville exit. Troopers attempted to stop the motorcycle, but the driver did not comply and continued at high speed. The motorcycle exited Interstate 29, proceeded eastbound on ND Highway 200A, and then went southbound on Traill County Highway 81.
The driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, causing the motorcycle to enter the west ditch where it overturned multiple times before coming to rest. The driver was ejected from the vehicle during this process. NDHP personnel provided medical aid at the scene before he was transported by ambulance and subsequently airlifted to a local hospital.
Charges related to this incident are pending as the investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol continues.
