Grants totaling $80,000 have been distributed to support research, promotion, and marketing in North Dakota's grape, fruit, and wine sector. The announcement was made by Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring.
“North Dakota’s grape and wine industry continues to grow and evolve,” Goehring said. “The research, marketing and promotion funded by this grant will help advance the industry and promote cold hardy grape growing and quality wine making.”
Funding recipients include North Dakota State University, which received $45,000 for work on improving grapevine resilience against temperature changes. The North Dakota Grape and Wine Association was awarded $15,000 to focus on industry marketing efforts. The Winery Association of North Dakota secured $10,000 for a statewide marketing initiative. Viking Vines received $10,000 aimed at promoting cold-hardy grape production as well as supporting agrotourism activities across the state's wineries.
Grant applications were reviewed by a committee that advised the Agriculture Commissioner on funding decisions. The total grant allocation covers the 2025-2027 biennium.
