The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) has announced that it is now accepting applications for its Special Road Fund (SRF) program. The SRF supports projects on roads that provide access to recreational, tourist, and historical areas.
The program is designed to help finance highway projects identified by political subdivisions, tribal governments, and state agencies. These entities often have some funding in place but require additional assistance to complete their projects.
“The Special Roads Fund is a great opportunity to help improve access roads to and within tourist, historical, and public recreational areas,” said NDDOT Director Ron Henke. “We encourage counties, cities, state agencies, and tribal governments to apply, and to share this program with other agencies within their jurisdictions such as park boards, historical societies, and townships.”
For this cycle, the funding structure has changed to an 80/20 split with a maximum of $500,000 in SRF dollars available per project.
Applications are being accepted for projects scheduled for construction in 2026 or 2027. The deadline for submission is November 30, 2025.
The Special Road Fund Advisory Committee plans to meet in early 2026 to review the submitted applications and select which projects will receive funding.
