BISMARCK, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven (R-N.D.) on June 30, 2023 announced a $617,648 grant for the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality to establish a coal combustion residual (CCR) state program. The grant will be used to make database improvements, including establishing an online portal for CCR facilities to submit required documentation. As a member of the Senate Energy and Water Appropriations Committee, Hoeven has supported the program in annual funding legislation.

“North Dakota is a leader in harnessing its abundant lignite energy reserves, providing an important energy source for our state and nation,” said Hoeven. “This grant will help our state in efforts to better manage and recycle coal byproducts.”
