Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread participated in a recent roundtable on wildfires and their impact on the U.S. insurance market. The event, hosted by the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services, brought together representatives from housing and insurance sectors for a bipartisan, closed-door discussion.
Godfread attended as president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) to represent insurance regulators. The meeting was prompted by recent wildfires in and around Los Angeles. During the session, Godfread shared North Dakota’s experiences with fires last fall.
"This discussion with federal lawmakers was an opportunity to have candid conversations about the state of property insurance in the U.S. and how we can take a collaborative approach to making strategic investments to mitigate against catastrophic events down the road," Godfread stated.
Insurance regulators across various states are supporting California and other regions affected by severe wildfires. Consumers in areas prone to wildfires are advised to work with an insurance agent for appropriate coverage and take steps to reduce fire risks.
