The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) will start implementing lane closures on Centennial Road/Bismarck Expressway in early April as part of the ongoing I-94 Interchange (Exit 161) Reconstruction project. The initiative, beginning on April 1, includes closing the northbound outside lane between Divide Avenue and Trenton Drive to facilitate temporary roadway expansion.
By mid-April, the project will also require southbound lane closures on the same thoroughfare for the removal and replacement of concrete medians with asphalt. These adjustments are scheduled to persist throughout the 2025 construction season.
The reconstruction project, which commenced in spring 2024, aims to improve traffic patterns around the interchange by eliminating two left-turn movements and introducing more efficient right-turn loops. It is expected to continue until the summer of 2026.
NDDOT has expressed its commitment to keep the public informed about any traffic changes and appreciates the patience of motorists as the work progresses. "The NDDOT is committed to providing timely updates on traffic patterns and road conditions, ensuring the public is informed of any significant changes," stated the department. Furthermore, NDDOT recognizes the public's understanding during this significant infrastructure enhancement. "The NDDOT appreciates the public’s patience as this essential infrastructure project progresses."
