The North Dakota Department of Transportation will start a culvert replacement project on Highway 83 in Minot on August 4. The project aims to improve drainage, increase safety, and prolong the life of the roadway.
According to the department, work will involve replacing a structural steel pipe under U.S. Highway 83/South Broadway Street with a concrete box culvert. Additional upgrades include improvements to traffic signals and resurfacing of the road.
Preparation for construction has already started. Currently, southbound U.S. 83/South Broadway is limited to one lane. The off-ramp from U.S. 2 to U.S. 83 is closed, and drivers are being detoured through the U.S. 2/U.S. 52 interchange. Motorists should travel north on U.S. 52, then west on U.S. 2 before exiting at the U.S. 2/U.S. 83 interchange.
Drivers should expect delays during these closures, which will remain in place while work continues.
Construction is expected to finish by late October 2025.
