The North Dakota Industrial Commission has approved $2.6 million in matching grants to support electric grid resilience projects. The funding is part of the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, with 85% provided by federal sources and 15% from state funds.

The program aims to strengthen the state's electric grid against disruptions caused by severe weather, wildfires, or other natural disasters. In this round of funding, McLean Electric Cooperative will receive $515,900 to upgrade oil circuit reclosers to dielectric reclosers. Montana Dakota Utilities has been awarded $2,086,456 for its “Merricourt Sub-Transmission Upgrade” project.

“We commend the project sponsors for their investments in energy resiliency,” the Commission said in a joint statement. “The projects approved today demonstrate North Dakota’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of energy transmission security, reliability and innovation.”
