Motorists using Memorial Highway in Mandan will see a change in the traffic pattern starting Thursday, October 23. The North Dakota Department of Transportation announced that traffic will move from the temporary roadway on the north side of Memorial Highway to a section of newly paved concrete on the south side. This shift is necessary so crews can install a new water main and begin paving work on the north side.
The most noticeable changes are expected near the intersection with 46th Avenue SE, where milling operations are set to start Thursday morning. Drivers coming off the I94/Bismarck Expressway ramp from the north will only be able to head west onto Memorial Highway or east into Bismarck. Those traveling southbound onto 46th Avenue SE should use the McKenzie Drive exit as an alternative during this phase.
Officials say that ramp traffic patterns at 46th Avenue SE will change frequently while construction continues. Business approaches near this intersection have already been paved and will remain open for access as drivers adjust to the new layout.
Flaggers will be present at several locations to help guide motorists through the transition. "Motorists are reminded to stay alert, watch for changing signage, and follow posted directions to help maintain safety for both drivers and crews during this phase of construction," according to officials.
