Senator John Hoeven introduced Chris Wright, President Donald Trump's nominee for Secretary of Energy, at a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing. Hoeven emphasized Wright's extensive experience in the energy sector and his contributions to innovations like hydraulic fracturing mapping, crucial for commercial shale oil development.

Hoeven underscored the significance of technologies such as carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) in harnessing America's energy resources while enhancing environmental practices. He highlighted North Dakota's leadership in CCUS and secured Wright's commitment to advance initiatives like Project Tundra. They discussed how U.S.-developed technologies could benefit global energy production with reduced environmental impact.

"If we really want an all-of-the-above energy policy for our nation, we need people like Chris Wright," said Senator Hoeven. "It’s through having the right kind of legal, tax and regulatory climate that entrepreneurs like Chris were able to build North Dakota into a global energy powerhouse."

Hoeven has worked over 15 years to promote North Dakota's leadership in CCUS technologies for cleaner coal-fired power. His efforts include establishing legal frameworks for CCUS, achieving regulatory primacy for Class VI wells, securing a Department of Energy grant for Project Tundra, and advancing Basin’s Dakota Gasification synfuels plant.
