Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has announced the approval of funding by the North Dakota Agricultural Products Utilization Commission (APUC) for three projects. The total funding amounts to $395,215 and was approved during APUC's quarterly meeting on February 27 in Bismarck.
APUC is a program under the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. It administers grant programs aimed at research and development of new and expanded uses for agricultural products from North Dakota. These grants support rural communities and agriculture operations by facilitating basic and applied research, marketing, farm diversification, agritourism, prototype technology, and technical assistance.
The projects receiving approval are as follows:
PHAT Brothers Bakery Inc., doing business as Tatanka Sky, was awarded $150,000 to establish a facility dedicated to repurposing bison hides and skulls. For more information, contact Kevin Cavanagh at 701-202-9256.

NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center was granted $95,215 to investigate the effectiveness of North Dakota coproducts in steer diet finishing while also analyzing nitrogen excretion. Colin Tobin is available for inquiries at 701-652-2951.
The next grant application hearing will take place on May 28-29, 2025, in Minot. Applications must be submitted by April 1, 2025.
