The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced about $1 billion in disaster recovery aid for livestock producers affected by wildfires and floods in 2023 and 2024. The funds will be distributed through the Emergency Livestock Relief Program (ELRP).

This funding represents the second portion of a total $2 billion package included in a continuing resolution passed in December, which received support from Senator Kevin Cramer.

“Thank you to President Trump and Secretary Rollins for delivering this second batch of funding to our producers,” said Cramer. “Initiatives like the Emergency Livestock Relief Program offer critical assistance to our producers impacted by disasters.”

Producers located in counties with qualifying disasters do not need to submit additional documentation to receive assistance. In North Dakota, eligible counties are Bowman, Dunn, Golden Valley, McIntosh, McKenzie, McLean, Oliver, Sioux, and Williams. Producers who experienced losses outside these listed counties may still apply but must provide proof that a qualifying flood or wildfire occurred where their livestock were or would have been if not for the disaster.

Enrollment for the program is open from September 15 through October 31. Further details on how to access this funding can be found at the USDA’s website.
