Senator John Hoeven of North Dakota and Congressman August Pfluger from Texas have introduced a Congressional Review Act resolution. This resolution aims to block the Biden administration's Natural Gas Tax, which was part of the Inflation Reduction Act passed in 2022.

"American households and businesses depend every day on access to affordable and reliable energy," stated Senator Hoeven, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. He emphasized that increasing supply is essential for reducing prices for U.S. consumers. According to Hoeven, rescinding policies like the Natural Gas Tax will help boost domestic energy production.

Congressman Pfluger expressed concerns about President Biden's approach to fossil fuels, which he believes negatively impacts energy producers in his district. "If implemented, the ill-conceived natural gas tax will handicap technological innovation, reduce supplies of affordable energy, and increase both costs and emissions," Pfluger said. He is leading efforts to rescind this tax through the CRA.

This legislative effort is part of Hoeven's broader initiative to counter what he describes as costly taxes and regulations from President Biden’s administration. These measures have reportedly increased consumer costs and hindered domestic energy production. Moving forward, Hoeven plans to work with colleagues in Congress under the Trump administration to improve access to taxpayer-owned resources, streamline energy development processes, and reduce production costs.

The bill has received support from several senators including Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), James Risch (R-Idaho), Rick Scott (R-Fla.) in the Senate, along with Congressman Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) in the House.
