Senator John Hoeven announced the completion of the crosswind runway reconstruction and extension at Grand Forks International Airport. As a Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Committee member, Hoeven secured over $50 million in federal funding for the five-year project totaling $70 million.

The new runway will allow the airport to maintain large aircraft operations during the upcoming reconstruction of the main runway, which is set to begin in 2026 and conclude in 2028. This development supports increased air traffic capacity and improved operational efficiency at one of the nation's top 25 busiest airports for take-offs and landings.

Additionally, a new Air Traffic Control Tower construction is planned for 2025, fully funded by the federal government. Hoeven has collaborated with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to advance this project.

"Between the dynamic and growing economy in the Grand Forks region and the world-leading aviation school at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks has one of the top 25 busiest airports in the country," said Hoeven. "We clearly need airport infrastructure with the ability to meet air service demand now and into the future. That’s why we worked to secure more than $50 million in federal funding for this runway project, which provides additional operational capacity and sets the stage for future reconstruction of the main runway."

This milestone aligns with Hoeven's broader efforts to expand state airports to accommodate population growth and economic expansion. He has previously supported successful projects at airports in Williston and Minot and continues advocating for terminal expansions in Fargo and Dickinson.
