The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced the allocation of nearly $500,000 to Dakota Angus, LLC. This funding comes from the Local Food Promotion Program (LFPP) and aims to establish up to five new routes for distributing beef directly from farms to consumers. It will also help expand wholesale operations through various outlets such as grocery stores, food hubs, convenience stores, and schools in underserved markets.
According to the USDA, "The award will expand market opportunities for livestock producers, create additional local jobs, and diversify consumers’ options." Dakota Angus is based in Drake and represents two third-generation livestock farms. The company has incorporated a value-added approach to its farm-to-consumer beef program.
The LFPP is part of the Local Agriculture Market Program, which supports projects designed to develop, coordinate, and expand local and regional food business enterprises. The initiative also aims to increase access to locally and regionally produced agricultural products.
